I read Three friends and a taxi by Maryanne Bester to my son last night and he asked why the dog paid too much. We found ourselves talking about life and how fair and unfair it is. For more about the Author and a short book review read here:

“The honeymoon was nearly over. My husband and I were in a bus on the island of Grande Comore, off the coast of East Africa. We were hot, tired and – truth be told – becoming bored, when our tour guide, pointing out a ‘bush taxi’ roaring past us, told us the African fable that would later become Three Friends and a Taxi.

My sister Shayle and I grew up on a farm in South Africa, so rural Africa is the landscape of our childhood. We were surrounded by animals and got to know the scenery well. Thus when the Isiqalo Book Competition came up, we jumped at the opportunity to combine the taxi story with Shayle’s illustrations.
