Illustrators animate the written word. They are like tour guides of a children’s book, invoking the imagination and opening up the minds and worlds of its audience. Similar to oral storytellers, the craft of many of our children’s illustrators is severely underappreciated. Puku is re-designing its My Language My Heritage NHC project to include illustrators in its workshops. We are re-shaping our second creative writing workshop in late July into a Book Dash-like workshop where illustrators, cartoonists, designers, editors and authors will work on producing ready to print children’s books for 2 days. For more information on this project and other opportunities that engage South Africa’s illustrators, please send an inquiry to contenteditor@puku.co.za.
