Catherine Groenewald is a South African children’s-book author, illustrator and artist based on a small holding near Stellenbosch. She writes and illustrates stories that sensitively address issues such as loss, grief, hope and resilience — especially for children facing hardship — while also creating joyful, imaginative tales for young readers. Among her works are books like Nosipho Comes to Stay, I Could Be Anywhere, and Nyambura Waits for the Bus. She is also involved with a nonprofit initiative that trains disadvantaged women to make rag dolls featured in her “Thandi and Nosipho” series.
