Ian Lusted is a South African children’s book author and illustrator whose bold, clear artwork and simple, accessible texts make him a favourite among early reading audiences. His illustrations — often likened to the style of Dick Bruna — are characterised by simple outlines, bright flat colours, and clean compositions, which help bring stories to life for young readers. Over many years, he has worked on books in multiple South African languages as well as English, contributing to the country’s early literacy resources, often collaborating with other authors to craft stories that are engaging, culturally relevant and ideal for children learning to read.
